At last! Finally the long-awaited and most loved fashion show will be aired next Tuesday Dec 8th. If you don’t know what I am talking about – I’m talking about the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show! As a girl, this show is something we wait for all year! Nothing beats getting together with a few girlfriends, a bottle of wine (or two) and turning on the TV to watch some of the hottest women strut their stuff. Walking down the runway to live music (this year Rihanna and Selena Gomez perform) and wearing some of the sexiest lingerie, swim suits and active wear ever- these women are the most envied women on the planet! From all around the world these girls are known for their amazing bodies, their confidence and their ferociousness.

For those of you who don’t know, this fashion show is nothing like an editorial fashion show. Every year The Victoria’s Secret team puts together a performance which allows the models to wave, smile, dance and laugh, quite uncharacteristic of the average fashion show. With its impeccable atmosphere and after parties, the VS Fashion Show is super fun and relaxed with hundreds of A-list celebrities in attendance. The viewers, like me, have the chance to see names like Beyoncé and Jay-Z sitting first row as they watch the show. How fun, right?

12. Sara Sampaio

Born in Porto, Portugal, Sara Sampaio is a model best known for being the first Portuguese model to be featured in a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. At only 24 years old she’s won the 2014 Award for Rookie of the Year for Sports Illustrated, has modelled for brands like GQ, Glamour and Vogue and has been part of the “A Body for Everyone” campaign that stands for all women being beautiful no matter what shape or size they are. She began her career with Victoria’s Secret during the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in 2013 with one segment. In 2014 she gained 2 segments on the runway and finally she was named an Angel in 2015.

11. Maria Borges

Maria Borges, a stunning Angolan model was raised in Luanda, Angola by her siblings during the Angolan Civil War. In 2010 she decided to try out for the Angolan edition of Elite Model Look and finished in second place. Her career rapidly began to flourish and in 2012 she signed with Supreme Agency. Having walked many runways, been a Givenchy exclusive and known as fashion designer Riccardo Tisci’s favourite model, Maria has without a doubt been a massive influence in the fashion world. She’s walked the past 3 years in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and is the first black women to walk down the VS runway with her natural Afro hair.

10. Kendall Jenner

Kendall Jenner, 20 years old and the second youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan, is a model and TV personality definitely deserving of this spot! First year as a model in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion show and new to high fashion modelling in general, Kendall Jenner has been named the new “It Girl” in the fashion industry. Born in Los, Angeles California, this Californian beauty is just starting out her career, having recently walked in New York, Milan and Paris Fashion week she is slowly creating a career in modelling and entrepreneurship. Her sister Kylie Jenner and her have worked together on fashion lines with Topshop, PacSun and Steve Madden.

9. Shanina Shaik

Born in Melbourne, Australia, Shanina Shaik comes from Lithuanian, Australian, Pakistani and Saudi Arabian descent. She has one of the most diverse looks on this list and has been modelling one of the longest – since the age of 8. Years after, she entered the Girlfriend Model Competition in Australia. Agents were interested in her, but as she was only 15, she was unable to move by herself to Sydney. Instead she participated on the Australian show Make Me A Supermodel where she finished as runner up. Reportedly she tried out 3 years in a row for the VS fashion show but was only allowed to partake for the first time in 2011.

8. Lily Aldridge

Lily Aldridge is a classic. She’s known for her gorgeous brown locks, her gap teeth, high cheekbones and her olive complexion. As the rocker of the group, she is married to musician Caleb Followill from the band Kings of Leon and they have one child together. She is a self-proclaimed workaholic and fitness junkie. Aldridge regularly boxes and does pilates to keep her figure in shape. Known as one of the Victoria’s Secret veterans, she has walked in the fashion show more than anyone of this list – 7 times! Aldridge gained her angel wings only the second time she walked in 2010!

7. Romee Strijd

This blonde bombshell is one of the youngest on this list. Born in Zoetermeer, Netherlands, Romee Strijid is a Dutch model best known for her work with Victoria’s Secret. She was a newcomer to the fashion show last year but has since become an official Victoria’s Secret Angel. She’s worked with Alexander McGqueen, Balmain and Prada among many other high brand name names. She’s appeared on the cover of both Elle and Vogue Netherlands and in 2015 she was named as the new face for the Stradivarius spring fashion campaign. Strijid is currently signed with the DNA Model Management agency in New York City.

6. Gigi Hadid

This beautiful 20-year-old is a Victoria’s Secret Pink model. Walking the fashion show for the first time she will definitely be one of the showstoppers. Born with Dutch and Palestinian ancestry, she started modelling for Baby Guess when she was just 2 years old. Model, TV personality (her mother is on the TV show The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills) and American socialite, Gigi has grown up in an A-list world. Hadid is the stepsister to Erin and Sara Foster and she is reportedly best friends with Kendall Jenner (who also walked in the VS fashion show for the first time). Currently signed with IMG models, her career is only beginning. This native Californian has a lot of potential to be one of the greatest supermodels of this time. She is currently dating Zayn Malik from One Direction.

5. Behati Prinsloo

26-year-old Behati Prinsloo, born in Nambia, is another Victoria’s Secret model veteran. Known as the tomboy of the group, she’s a nature and animal lover. Her career started at the age of 16 while on vacation in Cape Town, South Africa with her family. She was noticed by a scout and shortly thereafter, she moved to London to start her modelling career. Interestingly enough, her first modelling gig was a foot ad campaign. Behati is reportedly good friends with musician Taylor Swift and she is married to the handsome Adam Levine of Maroon 5 and judge on The Voice. Lucky girl.

4. Joan Smalls

Born in Puerto Rico with West-Indian and African ancestry, Joan Smalls is one of the newest and freshest faces of the decade. This 27-year-old became the first Latina to represent on the Estee Lauder cosmetic campaign, she’s been dubbed the next greatest supermodel and in 2012 was awarded “Model of the Year” by supermodel Iman. She’s been featured in brand campaigns such as Calvin Klein, Givenchy, Tiffany & Co., Versace and has been serving as co-host of the MTV fashion show House of Style. Not only that, but she is one of a few who have modelled in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion show 5 years straight.

3. Alessandra Ambrosio

Alessandra Ambrosio is lucky number 3 on this list! This beautiful Brazilian babe is not only Victoria’s Secret’s Pink line spokes-model but she is also a fashion designer and the National Ambassador for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Born in Erechim, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, she first gained recognition when she entered the Elite Model Look contest and won. Though seemingly perfect, Ambrosio at an early age was very insecure about her ears. At the age of 11 she had cosmetic surgery to have her ears pinned back, though suffering complications for the next 2 years. Following this surgery, she claims that she will never have anything done again.

2. Candice Swanepoel

This South African stunner was actually discovered in a mall in Durban when she was just 16. At 5’9½”, blonde and blue eyed, she quickly became an international sensation. Currently 10th on the Forbes top-earning models list, Candice has modelled for brand names like Tommy Hilfiger, Dolce and Gabbana, Fendi, Chanel and Stella McCartney among many others. She’s been on the cover of multiple Vogue and Elle covers and has even been the one to officially open the first Victoria’s Secret retail store in Canada. She has been dating model Hermann Nicoli ever since she was 17 (now she is 27), they announced their engagement August 2015.

At the early age of 13 she competed in modelling competitions. With her Native-Brazilian, African-Brazilian, Portuguese and Caribbean heritage, she landed a deal with the prestigious Elite Model Management. She’s known for her athletic body (she loves to box) and her exotic look. Adriana has modelled for names such as Bebe, BCBG and Keds – though most notable is her status as a Victoria’s Secret Angel. Interesting fact: she is the second best-paid Brazilian model, behind Gisele Bundchen. Lima can also speak 4 languages: English, Portuguese, Spanish and Italian.

Xavi thinks Neymar is still a few years away from winning the Ballon D'Or

Barcelona legend Xavi believes that Neymar still has some way to go before he can truly reach the levels of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. The 35-year-old playmaker can be considered an expert on the subject, having played a couple of seasons with the Brazilian at the Camp Nou.

Neymar has been nominated for the Ballon d’Or along with the two ‘forever-present’ nominees in Messi and Ronaldo. However, Xavi maintains that even this year’s competition will see Messi and Ronaldo battle it out. He feels that Neymar and other top-tier players such as Luis Suarez might have to wait a little longer to get their hands on the Ballon D’Or.

“If Cristiano and Messi are in good shape and they can maintain their standard, I think we’re going to see them both fighting it out at the next few Ballon d’Ors,” he said.

“As for the next few years, we’ll see what kind of standard Messi and Cristiano are at. But other players can come into it too, like Neymar and Suarez. They could easily be in there.

“But for now, Cristiano and Messi are still a cut above. Messi’s still the favourite for me and the best in the world, the best in history in fact, as I’ve said many times.”

Xavi: Messi deserves the Ballon d’Or

The ex-World Cup winner clearly pointed out Messi as the best of the lot. Xavi believes that Messi deserves to win the Ballon D’Or as he had a brilliant last season where he led Barcelona to a treble.

“I think Leo is the clear favourite now, he deserves it too for everything he’s achieved at Barcelona,” he said.

“I’ve said it many times before but there’s no comparison in my book. He has total command of every aspect of the game. 

“He’s the best at everything and he shows that in every match. He deserves this Ballon d’Or.”

Messi and Ronaldo have kept the trophy between them for the past seven years. One has to go back as far as 2007, when neither of them laid their hands on the trophy as Kaka won it after a stellar season with AC Milan, but since then the Argentine has claimed it four times and Ronaldo three times, the first of which came when he was at Manchester United.

Messi scored 58 goals last season and provided 26 assists to his teammates. On the other hand, Ronaldo scored 60 goals in 51 appearances and made 21 assists as well. Neymar formed a part of one of the greatest attacking trios ever along with Messi and Suarez, and scored 39 goals last season.

Maria Fowler, who unlike many of her contemporaries has studied Fine and Performing Arts, has tried to buck that trend with other modeling gigs and even some acting. 5. Too Gloomy

Ever since Christopher Nolan proved that dark and gritty Batman films can work – and be insanely profitable – most of the DC superhero movies have attempted to emulate that style to mixed success. WhenMan Of Steel tried to infuse a darker tone into Superman, it didn’t quite work as the film was sorely lacking that crucial element of fun and excitement. Based on the trailers for Batman v Superman, it looks like more doom and gloom is on the horizon.

Whilst the Batman material is as sullen as you’d expect, the cries of ‘false god’ seem to indicate that there’s no room for any humor in Superman’s half either. In their eagerness to distinguish themselves from the light-hearted and quippy Marvel movies, DC doesn’t seem to realize that the whole dark and gritty schtick doesn’t mean robbing a film of its warmth and life. Anything any character does in the Batman v Superman trailer seems to be done with a permanent scowl with barely a hint of a smile anywhere. It’s one thing to strive for realism in a superhero movie, but it’s another to have the heroes emotional range permanently set between angry and sad. Surely Batman or Superman have laughed to at least one joke in their lifetime?

4. Batman And Superman Relationship Is Already Underdeveloped

The Dark Knight Returns is considered one of the greatest comic books ever for featuring the first no-holds-barred Batman vs. Superman conflict and the subsequent fallout between the two characters. What made the comic so powerful and emotional was that Batman and Superman have been well-established as close friends who have been through hell together. By the time the two fight, it’s hard to not see their conflict as anything other than a tragedy. It is this crucial aspect that the Batman vs. Superman film is lacking.

Whilst the Batman and Superman conflict in the comics was well-earned due to all the groundwork that had been laid out, the film skips all of this important backstory. By introducing Batman in this film and having him take on Superman shortly after their initial meeting immediately robs their conflict of any emotion or stakes. Without their deep and close friendship as a backbone, the cinematic conflict between Batman and Superman feels cheap, unwarranted, and nothing more than an ego-driven brawl than a sad fight between two close friends.

After the filmmakers said that this is an original story and nothing is taken from The Dark Knight Returns, you can’t help but feel that they missed out on making something great by not using the comic.

3. Bruce’s Origin Story Is Explained (Again)

With two cinematic Batman origin stories already, the tale of Bruce Wayne’s humble beginnings is well-trodden territory and doesn’t really need to be told again. When it was announced that an older Batman would make his cinematic return opposite to Superman, it appeared that signs were pointing to a new Batman introductory story.
And then the Batman v Superman trailer dropped and everyone saw Bruce’s parents get murdered. Again.

Instead of introducing an older and world-weary Bruce and dedicating time to the Batman and Superman conflict, the producers are playing it way too safe and going down the same beaten path yet again. After a trilogy of Batman films that ended not too long ago, is there really anyone left who doesn’t know the story of why Bruce Wayne became Batman? What the film should’ve done was completely ignore the Christopher Nolan Batman films.

Instead, by doing another origin story only 10 years after Batman Begins, the film risks alienating audiences with something that is turning out to be little more than a retread.

2. Too Much Setup, Not Enough Of A Self-Contained Story

Marvel has taken their time in crafting a well-established cinematic universe by forming a solid foundation through several solo films. Sensing that they’re behind in the game, DC is rushing to launch their own cinematic universe by announcing a large slate of films over the next few years. However, DC’s ambitious catch-up plan could prove detrimental to Batman v Superman’s overall quality.

There’s a lot of groundwork that needs to be done before the Justice League film drops in 2017. But with only Suicide Squad and the Wonder Woman film coming out in between Batman v Superman and the Justice League, DC only has a limited amount of movies to fully establish all the characters required. Seeing as how Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman are doing their own individual thing, it appears that Batman v Superman is having to do all the heavy lifting before 2017 rolls around.

With a massive cast that includes Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Aquaman, and Lex Luthor, it’s difficult to see how this film will manage to introduce all the new characters, set up the DC universe for future instalments, and tell a satisfactory story that is self-contained.

1. Too Many New Characters And Storylines

For a film that has Batman v Superman as the headline act, there is an almost excessive number of supporting characters who are waiting on the sidelines. Wonder Woman and Lex Luthor are on the cards to play some significant supporting roles, whilst Aquaman, Cyborg, and a supposedly dead General Zod are all set to appear in some sort of cameo. That’s not even mentioning all the non-powered human characters such as Lois Lane, Alfred Pennyworth, and the rest of the Daily Planet crew.

With so many characters to focus on, there’s also a lot of story to cover beyond Batman and Superman’s little spat. From what can be gleaned from the trailers and available information, there’s Superman and his conflict with the Government, Batman’s origin story and his guilt over the death of Robin, Lex Luthor’s mysterious plan as a third wheel, and the still-unknown reasons and motives behind Wonder Woman’s appearance. With a final tally of roughly 10 major characters, at least four major storylines, and presumably two and a half hours to squeeze everything in, it’s hard to see how this film will successfully juggle everything.

Considering the fact that Sam Raimi couldn’t prevent Spiderman 3 from collapsing beneath its many characters and storylines, and Avengers: Age of Ultron barely scraping through despite having Joss Whedon, what chance does Zack Snyder and Batman v Superman have?
